So, you have received the first version of your mix, and you will probably want to have something done differently. I want you to be happy with the result, and so do you. However, sometimes it is difficult to understand what another person wants, having grown up in different countries and in a different culture. So, here's some tips on how to give feedback when you want changes in the mix: One way of feedback is to give broad suggestions: Like; 'more agressive', 'softer', 'brighter', 'more dirty', - and so on. Another way is to be very spesific - with a numbered list and exact changes on exact points of time in the song, like: 1) At 1:03 to 1:20, - louder lead-guitar 2) At 1:15 to 1:34 - more reverb on the backing vocals 3) At 3:12 to 3:14 - make that boom even bigger 4) At 3:20 to 3:33 - slow fade-out of the organ and so on... Combine these two It is also possible to combine these two, and maybe focusing on the instruments:
1) Vocals: more floating and more huge, lots of reverb, throughout the song 2) Guitar; in the solo at 2:23 to 2:34, can you make it more dirty, really really dirty here 3) Whisper at 3;42 to 3:50 - can you make it like 'thinking to one-self-in-a-film' kind of reverby? and so on... A good and well defined feedback will make it much more easy for me to do the changes you are looking for.
